Samurai Warriors 2's focus goes beyond Nobunaga's reign and introduces Sekigahara. To contrast the darker colors planned for the original, the visual planner for this game wanted to make "a gold image" for the setting and characters. Sengoku Musou 2 with Moushouden & Empires HD, was released exclusively in Japan on the PS3 and PS Vita consoles. This version has upgraded HD visuals and models and also features Trophies.

ModesEdit

Story ModeEdit

Similar to the previous installment, the game focuses on character-specific story stages. Exclusive to the PlayStation 2 version, if the player starts the game with a Samurai Warriors save file, Hanzō Hattori and Kenshin Uesugi can be played from the start, whilst having a Samurai Warriors: Xtreme Legends save file allows Tadakatsu Honda to be initially playable.

Free ModeEdit

Similar to the previous installment, Free Mode lets players choose a stage which was cleared in Story Mode and is able to play it with a desired character. Dream stages are not available in Free Mode.

Survival Mode Edit

Survival Mode returns with a few new additions. The goal of Survival Mode is to successfully complete as many floors as possible for rewards.

Ranmaru Mori can only be unlocked in this mode by fulfilling certain missions and is restricted to Free Mode only. Katsuie Shibata and Kojirō Sasaki can be unlocked as bodyguards by fulfilling similiar requirements.

SugorokuEdit

A mini-game which allows four players to participate with a character. The goal is to collect the requested amount of gold chosen by the player's predetermined settings. At the beginning of the game, three flags for each player will be divided in the map, and players earn gold and raise their ranks by collecting their respective flags and returning to their home base. Players can buy territories on the map or challenge other players for the control of a territory. Within the game, there are six different challenges:

  • Annihilate
  • Chase
  • Destroy
  • Race
  • Reveal
